I earned my Master of Microbiology from North Carolina State University and currently have 20 years of industry experience. In this field, I have worked in consulting, quality assurance, quality control, microbiology, and research and development laboratories. During my career, I have worked with global regulatory bodies, developed and validated microbial methods, equipment, environmental monitoring, and utility system programs. I am a published author and speaker in the microbiology industry. In March of 2018, I received the PDA Distinguished Editor/Author Award for authoring the book “Method Development and Validation for the Pharmaceutical Microbiologist”. I am now currently the Regional Manager for PSC Biotech Corporation based on the East Coast of the United States, which entails working to grow and expand the Raleigh office.
Despite all of my experience, there is always an opportunity to learn more, which is why I originally joined the Parental Drug Association’s (PDA) Southeast Chapter. If you’re thinking about joining your local PDA chapter, here’s some great perks:
- PDA technical reports and books are excellent sources of information. As a member, you are able to download these for future reference.
- Discounts to industry events.
- PDA local chapters offer networking events to get to know people in your industry.
As I have progressed in my career, I have developed a desire to walk in the footsteps of my mentors and to share my knowledge with upcoming junior members of the industry through PDA. PDA offers opportunities in this regard. I am continuously volunteering to help write and review technical reports and to serve on task forces and it’s been rewarding in more ways than one. Being a PDA member in general has helped with my career immensely where I am continually building my network of industry professionals. I want to help the junior members of the industry see this so we can continue to make strides in this industry in the name of human health and beyond.
The more I took on this mentor role, the more I found myself wanting to become even more involved in the organization, and I am now the PDA Southeast (PDASE) chapter President-Elect. I wanted to help the PDA more, gain more experience, and eventually become President of the Southeast chapter, if the chapter chooses that path for me.
I am dedicated to the success of the chapter and I want to help offer opportunities for knowledge sharing. For example, you may only think you are interested in manufacturing, but attend a networking event for the PDASE chapter to meet new people. You may end up listening to a presentation about chemistry and expand your knowledge, or you may end up on a facility tour and learn how products are made. Whatever the reason, you are likely to meet new people, mingle with old colleagues, and learn something new, all while having a good time.
I am thankful that PSC Biotech Corporation has been in full support of my endeavors and I plan to continue to represent them with the integrity and intelligence both PDA and PSC share.
